You all know how much I love Jake and today I have something pretty great to share! He’s been doing something pretty fantastic and I finally snapped a picture of it! Before I get on with Jake’s most recent endeavor let’s recap all of the great things you all already know about (I think).
Jake LOVES his balls. Maybe more than anything else. They’re pretty much the only toy he plays with. His blue and orange rubber chuckit! balls are definitely his fave (and ours too since they’re indestructible) but he’s pretty much happy with any ball. He’s just not allowed to take his good ones near water. They sink. And they’re expensive.
WATER! Jake loves water probably as much as balls. If we purposefully don’t let him near it he’ll find some anyway. No matter how much or how little water there is he will find a way to get more than 50% of his body wet. He’s going to have serious issues if our next house isn’t close to water.
The way this dog sleeps! I’ve been told when a dog sleeps on their back it means they’re completely comfortable and secure with their environment. There’s no doubt about that! He’s also not a morning
person dog. It’s pretty great when I have a day off because he’ll let me sleep until 8 or 9. When Daniel and I both work and are up early it takes a while for him to make it downstairs. Sometimes he only makes it to the top of the stairs and sometimes we have to physically pick him up and put him on his feet in order for him to wake up and go for a walk.
The way he thinks he’s a human and expects to be treated like one. I’m not sure he knows he’s a dog! One time we sent him to daycare and were able to sneak a peak at him through the webcams at the facility. He had fun playing with other dogs but when a human walked in to the room he ran right over like he was thinking, “Thank goodness you’re back I can’t believe you’d leave me alone with these things!” The daycare ladies LOVED him! He kept walking between their legs and when he jumped up on one of the girls she kissed him on top of his head!
He’s so loveable and loves to be close to us. His excitement when we get home is out of control and nothing feels better than a greeting from Jake. He always nudges his way as close as possible to us and when Daniel and I hug he runs overs and nudges his head between our legs ensuring he doesn’t miss out on the FAMILY hug.
He’s a complete goofball! Seriously, he’s one ridiculous dog. From his temper tantrums and pouting to turning on the bath tub, playing catch with himself and burping human burps he has so much character! He’s just the best! PERIOD.
And now….the moment you’ve all been waiting for….JAKE RETRIEVES HIS OWN POOP BAGS! You read that correctly. Jake carries his own poop bag! He’s actually been doing it for a couple of months now but today he upped his game and I was able to snap a picture of it. We take him for walks on a fitness trails by our house. The trail is a loop with a stream running through it. The stream is right on the trail on the side opposite our house but a bit off the trail on the other side. When he poops on the side opposite our house we bag it up and toss it across the stream to be picked up on the way home. This way we don’t have to carry it for the entire walk. After only a couple times doing this Jake started running off the trail down to the stream and retrieving his own poop bag and then would drop it on the trail for us to carry the rest of the way home. It usually goes one of two ways. Sometimes he can get his ball AND the poop bag but other times he can’t make it work so he leaves the poop bag but essentially shows us where it is. Today he couldn’t get them both so HE LEFT HIS BALL and grabbed the poop bag instead! I repeat: he left his beloved ball and grabbed the bag full of his own poop instead! AND he carried it ALL the way home and in through the gate! Not only did he do all of that but he was excited to do it and based on the way he trotted down the trail with his bag of poop he was pretty darn proud of himself too. AND SO WAS I! Now if he’d only start to bag it up too!
Jake has got to be the greatest dog that ever lived! Even when he’s being naughty he’s ridiculously cute!
